HOW TO NEVER FORGET WHAT YOU READ

HOW TO NEVER FORGET WHAT YOU READ

HOW TO NEVER FORGET WHAT YOU READ.

I remember standing on the assembly ground. My schoolmates are well-kitted in our Wine Jackets, wine ties and white shirts. The term exams were just around the corner and as the custom was for my secondary school, students who did exceptionally well in the previous term were called out to share the stories behind their successes.

My SP, Emmanuel, was called out for his testimonial and He gave a very intriguing account which I believe you would also find interesting.

Throughout that term, He would take His time to read his notes after school hours and then call his younger brother to explain all that he had learnt from his reading.

Sounds Odd right?

But this procedure produced a magnificent impact on his results that term.

You possibly have had this challenge where you take a lot of time to read only to discover that you couldn't reproduce what you had read in the examination hall.

I know, it can be very frustrating and painful. But if we could look together at this procedure I am about to show you, you should be waving goodbye to this horrible experience.

I've found out that Emmanuel followed a technique very powerful in their work but unknown to many. This technique is one of the vehicles that can move you from the valley of mere awareness to the mountains of understanding. It's the FEYNMAN TECHNIQUE.

Dubbed "The Great Explainer" by his contemporaries, Richard Feynman was quoted to have said "if I cannot explain a concept simply, the problems lies in my understanding and not in my teaching abilities"

let's take a look at these steps.

1. Choose your concept: Here you write on a plane sheet of paper what you intend to learn about. Whatever the topic may be or the course title may be. Write it on a plain sheet of paper.

2. Pretend you are teaching the concept to a child:- After reading the materials that explain that concept or course, try teaching it as though you are teaching a child. Don't be too eager to teach it with 100% accuracy. Just try to explain in the best way you can. You can even use a mirror to explain it to yourself or you can employ the services of a friend who is willing to listen.

3. Note the Areas you found it difficult to explain and revisit the material to gain more understanding. In this way, you tighten loosed knots in your understanding of the concept.

4. Try using examples that best explain the concept. You can devise analogies and examples that can better explain it.

I know, they look simple, right? But try them out and you would find how effective they are.

Sometimes, watching YouTube videos could also be a great way to solidify your understanding of the concept. But I know that YouTube requires data to watch and getting data isn't cheap these days.

There's a solution to this problem. Having cheap data prices and an easy-to-navigate user interface, there's an app that can meet your data needs and keep you connected to the internet.
